The Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting will take place in Brussels, on Monday 24 March 2014, starting at 10:00 (CET).  It will address both agricultural and fisheries matters. The Council will be chaired by Greek Minister for Rural Development and Food, Athanasios Tsaftaris.

Tripartite Social Summit highlights EU’s social dimension

EU’s social partners joined European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras (representing the rotating EU presidency) at The Tripartite Social Summit held today (20.3.2014) ahead of the Spring EU Council.

The Summit focused on the launching of the Strategy “Europe 2020” and agreed on the need for further collective efforts to pursue sustainable economic growth, while ensuring social cohesion and quality employment.

Council confirms agreement with EP on investment funds

The Permanent Representatives Committee approved today (19.3.2014), on behalf of the Council, an agreement reached with the European Parliament on a proposal to amend EU rules on investment funds (7411/14).

The member states' permanent representatives today (19.3.2014) endorsed the compromise reached between the Council and the European Parliament concerning a decision to introduce a mandatory EU-wide system to handle emergency calls sent automatically by cars or triggered manually by people in the car in case of a crash (eCalls).

New regulation to ensure technical implementation of the Kyoto Protocol

The Council's Permanent Representatives Committee today approved the compromise reached between the Council and the European Parliament concerning a regulation amending Regulation No 525/2013 as regards the technical implementation of the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. It thereby endorsed the agreement reached on 17 March between the Greek Presidency of the Council and representatives of the European Parliament.

Protecting our ecosystem from invasive alien species

The Permanent Representatives Committee of the Council today (19.3.2014) approved a compromise text provisionally agreed between the Greek Presidency of the Council and the European Parliament on a draft regulation on the prevention and management of the introduction and spread of invasive alien species. It thereby endorsed the agreement reached between the Presidency of the Council and representatives of the European Parliament on 5 March.
