Justice Minister Athanasiou: Progress achieved, but efforts will continue

The progress achieved so far by the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU in the field of Justice was presented on 1 April by the Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights Charalampos Athanasiou to the JURI (Legal Affairs) and LIBE (Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs) Committees of the European Parliament (EP). “The Greek Presidency coincides with the European elections. However, we will not reduce our efforts on the proposed legislative measures”, Mr. Athanasiou underlined.

Council, EP and Commission on the homestretch for the adoption of a regulation concerning information and promotion measures for agricultural products on the internal market and in third countries

Minister for Rural Development and Food, Athanasios Tsaftaris, in his capacity as chairman of the Council of EU Ministers for Agriculture, will participate today (1.4.2014) in a trilogue with the European Parliament and the European Commission aiming at reaching agreement on a regulation proposal concerning information and promotion measures for agricultural products on the internal market and in third countries.

New rules to facilitate damage claims for antitrust law violations

The Committee of Permanent Representatives endorsed (26 March) an agreement between the Greek Presidency of the Council and European Parliament representatives laying down new rules aimed at facilitating damage claims by victims of antitrust violations. The new directive will harmonise and ensure the effective enforcement of antitrust damages rules within the EU, thereby allowing the victims of a cartel to receive full compensation for both the actual loss suffered and for lost profits.

A step towards adoption of Treaty to ensure equal access to books for visually impaired and print disabled persons

The Coreper I, at a meeting on 19.03.2014, approved a compromise proposal by the Greek Presidency on ''a proposal for a Council Decision on the signing, on behalf of the European Union, of the Treaty of Marrakesh which facilitates access to published works by persons who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print disabled'' [a proposal submitted by the Commission on 20.12.13, COM (2013 926)].
