Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos to visit Ukraine

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos will travel to Ukraine tomorrow, Sunday, 2 March 2014.

Initially, Mr. Venizelos will visit Mariupol, where he will meet with representatives of the local Greek Communities, and he will then travel on to Kiev, where he will have meetings with the country’s state and political leadership.

New agreement to cut broadband cost

On Friday 28 February 2014, the member states' permanent representatives endorsed the compromise reached between the Council and the European Parliament concerning a directive which will make it easier and cheaper to roll out high-speed electronic communications networks, among other things by promoting the joint use of infrastructure, such as electricity, gas and sewage pipes.

Establishing a reliable digital world for online transactions

On Friday 28.02.2014, the member states' permanent representatives endorsed the compromise reached between the Council and the European Parliament concerning a Regulation which lays down conditions for mutual recognition of electronic identification; sets rules for trust services, in particular for electronic transactions; and creates a legal framework for electronic signatures, seals and time stamps, electronic documents as well as electronic registered delivery services and certificate services for website authentication.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos meets in Rome with Italian Minister Federica Mogherini

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos on Friday, 28 February met in Rome, with Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini.

During the meeting the two ministers discussed the bilateral relations, the priorities of the current Greek Presidency and the upcoming Italian Presidency of the Council of the EU – with emphasis on European policy on illegal migration – energy cooperation between the two countries, as well as international and regional developments.

EU to secure an easier way home for unlawfully removed national treasures

The permanent representatives of the member states have endorsed today the informal agreement reached on 18 February 2014 between the Council and the European Parliament representatives on the proposal for a directive on the return of cultural objects unlawfully removed from the territory of a member state.
