EU High Representative and President of the Foreign Affairs Council Catherine Ashton and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos, in his capacity as President of the EU General Affairs Council, had extensive telephone talks today on the developments in Ukraine.

Greek Presidency welcomes the official launch of the High Level Group on Own Resources

The Prime Minister of Greece, Antonis Samaras, representing the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU, welcomed the official launch of the High Level Group on Own Resources, which took place today in Strasbourg with European Parliament President Martin Schulz and European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, and warmly congratulated Mario Monti on his appointment as its Chairman.

Launch of High Level Group on Own Resources at Strasbourg today (25.02.2014)

The Presidents of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, the European Parliament  Martin Schulz, the Council's rotating President, Greece's Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, and Designated Chair of the High Level Group on Own Resources Mario Monti, will launch the new high-level group in Strasbourg on 25 February.

Greek Presidency welcomes the G20 agreement on developing common strategies for growth, jobs and cooperation in tax matters

Concluding their first 2014 meeting in Sydney, the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors agreed on a global growth target of at least two percentage points over the next five years and reiterated their commitment on initiatives to promote long-term investment, especially in infrastructure and SMEs. Furthermore, they endorsed a global tax transparency standard.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos welcomes the agreement reached on the settlement of the Ukraine crisis

Upon arriving in Athens from Tirana, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made the following statement on the agreement reached in Kiev today on the settlement of the Ukraine crisis:
 
“The agreement reached in Ukraine can provide a peaceful way out of the crisis, avert the repetition of tragic events, and lead to consensus solutions with the participation of all the country’s forces.
