Collector’s silver euro coin dedicated to the Greek Presidency

Greece’s Finance Ministry is issuing a €10 Collector’s silver coin dedicated to the Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2014. The selling price of the Collector’s coin is € 52.85 (plus V.A.T.) and the maximum mintage 5,000 coins.

France honours the Greek Presidency with the “Hellas-France Alliance 2014” programme

Building on decades of close ties between Greece and France, the French Institute of Greece is honouring the semester of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union, highlighting the cultural relations between the two countries through a programme unprecedented in terms of extent and quality, entitled “Hellas-France Alliance 2014”. Forty years after the restoration of democracy in Greece, the event’s title alludes to an historic slogan widely heard in Greece during the 1970s.

Greek culture everywhere! The Greek Presidency celebrated across the world

A rotating EU Presidency is hard work, tough negotiations and complex agreements, but it is also an opportunity to celebrate European unity as well as the individual nations that forge it. In collaboration with embassies around the world, Greece’s fifth Presidency is bringing Greek art, music, literature, cinema, and gastronomy all around the world with a programme that highlights the country’s distinct cultural identity and its global resonance. Here are just some of the events that took place in the first two months of the Presidency.

EU Committee of the Regions meets in Athens (7-8.03.2014)

Ιn crisis-hit Greece, young filmmakers grab attention and provoke discussions at international festivals, creating a tendency that has been described by some as the Greek 'new wave' in cinema. The plethora of emerging artists are seeking personal ways to talk about contemporary Greek reality and a society in transition through movies that often receive international acclaim and find their way into European cinemas.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos to visit Ukraine

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos will travel to Ukraine tomorrow, Sunday, 2 March 2014.

Initially, Mr. Venizelos will visit Mariupol, where he will meet with representatives of the local Greek Communities, and he will then travel on to Kiev, where he will have meetings with the country’s state and political leadership.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos meets in Rome with Italian Minister Federica Mogherini

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos on Friday, 28 February met in Rome, with Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini.

During the meeting the two ministers discussed the bilateral relations, the priorities of the current Greek Presidency and the upcoming Italian Presidency of the Council of the EU – with emphasis on European policy on illegal migration – energy cooperation between the two countries, as well as international and regional developments.
